Song Spotlight: South America

I wrote this song in March 2013. I had been getting deep into producing and recording myself and worked quite laboriously on the mix and arrangement of the track. My musical education over the years has for the most part been self-inflicted. I thought the track had a bit of a bossa-nova beat to it – in my head that was a brilliant idea because the track was about South America. Brilliant. I had created something with some sort of highfaluting rhythmic and lyrical synchronistic style. I later became friendly with some Brazilian musicians who told me the beat wasn’t a bossa nova beat. Bubble burst. I often make the joke when playing this song live that I wrote the track in an effort to get free plane tickets to South America. As of yet this hasn’t happened. However I am heading to South America for 3 and a half weeks this year so I’ll have to wait and see if any weird stuff happens that would prove the song somewhat prophetic.

This might sound funny, but we should go. Spend our money down in Mexico. Drinking tequila in the morning sun. Dancing with Maria tell her she’s the only one.

This might sound reckless, but we should meet. In Argentina, on a crowded street. Where you’ll curse the day you met me, label all my lies. Curse the day you met me and my pale blue eyes.

You are what I want when I need it darling, showing me new ways to see.
You are what I want when I need it darling, come to South America with me.

I hope you’re crazy because I am too. I want to take you dancing in colonial Peru. High up in the andes, we will lose our minds. Come back down together, talk about the climb.

You are what I want when I need it darling, showing me new ways to see.
You are what I want when I need it darling, come to South America with me.

You say away, we’ve got to get away. I know. You say away, we’ve got to get away. I know. You say away, we’ve got to get away. I know. You say away, we’ve got to get away.

You are what I want when I need it darling, showing me new ways to see.
You are what I want when I need it darling, come to South America with me.
